Listen and Lecture
I thought Andy had it figured out that I really don’t want his opinion. You see, I had a bad day at work today and I asked him what he thought about my situation with a problem I had with a parent. Andy starts ranting and raving about how I could have handled the situation differently, blah, blah, blah. I am thinking to myself, wait a minute, what does Andy know about teaching twelve year olds? He starts comparing my parent problem with a complaint he once got at work. First, I will have to deal with this parent all year, not just a few phone calls and then it’s done for the rest of my life. Second, he should have just listened and nodded. Conversation over. We are both happy. Instead, he insists he knows “the answer.” For all you know-it-alls, when your “hunny bunny” has a bad day, just listen not lecture.
